About

Hi, I’m Emma. A multidisciplinary graphic designer who loves creating branding, print, video content, motion graphics and social media design.

I currently work for a creative marketing agency delivering campaigns and branding services and events across the publishing, arts and cultural sectors. As part of my role I work across many projects both in the UK and internationally, including literary prize programmes, museums and world leading exhibitions.

I am able to effectively communicate with a variety of different audiences, work to tight deadlines and work well under pressure. My freelance clients have included videographers, sports teams, commercial companies and creatives.

I began my career at a multimedia company who are specialists in magazines, digital and events. There I worked with the events team designing assets and ensuring their branding is consistent across all platforms. I also designed adverts and editorial for magazines. In August 2020, I started my own business alongside my freelance work selling gifts and homewares I design.

In 2022, I completed a postgraduate course in Visual Communication. The course was centred around the concepts of Design, Society and Nature and was based at The Margate School. During my time in the programme, I honed my already existing skills, including typography, editorial design, and semiotics. The curriculum also encouraged exploration in various mediums like animation, film, photography, illustration and art. We were encouraged to adopt a critical, interdisciplinary approach to design, underpinned by the belief in design’s ability to inform, educate, challenge, and address social and environmental challenges.

Agile Ideas | Oct 2022 - Present

I am currently a mid-weight graphic designer at Agile Ideas, a leading creative marketing agency specialising in delivering impactful campaigns and branding services within the publishing, arts, and cultural sectors. In my role, I have enjoyed collaborating with internal and external interdisciplinary teams, contributing to the creation of brands that effectively resonate with their target audiences and align with client briefs.

Shop Selfmade | Aug 2020 - Sept 2022

In 2020, I started my own business, Shop Selfmade, where I designed and sold unique gifts and homewares. I oversaw every aspect of the business, from initial product concepts and design to directly handling customer service, packaging orders, and developing marketing strategies. Such involvement gave me a comprehensive understanding of how to combine creativity with practical business skills.

Shop Selfmade achieved significant milestones, successfully completing over 2000 orders and maintaining a high standard with over 250 5-star reviews. At its most active, the business had more than 1500 engaged Instagram followers, demonstrating my ability to connect with and cultivate a dedicated audience. In 2021, Shop Selfmade was recognized by being accepted as a seller on Not On The High Street, and it also received acknowledgment in Stylist Magazine.

Managing Shop Selfmade provided me with invaluable experience, not just in graphic design, but also in business management, customer relations, and strategic marketing.

MediaClash, Bath | Feb 2019 - June 2020

During my time at MediaClash, a Bath-based integrated media and events company, I played a pivotal role as a graphic designer. Working closely with the events team, I collaborated with the Senior Artworker to produce assets for over 10 annual events and design two consumer facing magazines.

My responsibilities extended to the production of advertisements for local publications such as Bath Life and Crumbs Magazine. This role honed my ability to thrive under tight deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously. It provided a unique opportunity to work both in-house with events and production teams and externally as part of the broader MediaClash agency.

One standout achievement was my significant contribution to all four Life Awards events. This included creating various event materials, from table plans and programmes to innovative magazine-shaped boxes for attendees to take photographs in. These efforts demonstrated my commitment to consistent branding while infusing unique elements of each city to enhance the overall event experience.

This experience not only refined my design skills but also underscored my capability to deliver cohesive and visually impactful solutions for complex projects.
